Open Any Door With Your Very Own Sonic Screwdriver

Every great adventure character needs his (or her) very own toy without which he (or she) would be in a heck of a mess. Indiana Jones has his whip. James Bond…well, James Bond has many things, but mostly he had cars with lots of doodads. MacGyver…well, MacGyver is a freak. But you get the point.

The sonic screwdriver appeared on an old British sci-fi show called Doctor Who. In the Doctor's fourth incarnation (he was an alien who tended to regenerate), he had a nifty little device called the sonic screwdriver, which kind of resembles something still illegal to sell in some Southern states.

It used sound waves to move around objects, i.e., parts of door locks. Any type of door locks, from mechanical ones to electronic ones to whatever other types there are in Sci-Fi Land. At any rate, since the Doctor had a penchant for getting himself locked up in various ways, the sonic screwdriver was a handy little item for him to carry around.

Now you can have a sonic screwdriver too, except that it doesn't work. Well, it works, but it's actually only a flashlight. It won't help you if you wind up in a prison camp on Alpha Centauri unless you wanted to use it to worry the guards. Of course, the guards would probably just confiscate this screwdriver anyway.

But it's cool-looking. It looks just like the Doctor's did. Your Who-loving friends will think it's neat. Everyone else will think you're mad, but that's OK. Go. Be mad. Run free through the Cosmos, eating Jelly Babies and freeing the oppressed.
